Community leaders in Wilmington, Delaware, such as members of the Wilmington Education Improvement Commission and the subsequent Redding Consortium for Educational Equity, have been laboring to repair Wilmington schools after a long and painful history of educational segregation, desegregation, and resegregation. The effects of this history can be seen not only in the city’s public schools being overseen by five different school districts that include both urban and suburban communities but also in the third-highest rate of private school attendance per capita in the U.S. (“Public Education in Delaware”).
