What is Listen to Teachers?
Listen to Teachers (LTT) is an equity activism project in which women educators create and anonymously share photography and narratives with policymakers and the community to advocate for justice, anti-racism, and inclusion in public schools.
LTT allows participating educators to engage in verbal and visual storytelling, then share their experiences and ideas anonymously, without fearing the negative consequences that often inhibit educators’ advocacy work.
In an era characterized by distrust of public schools, teachers, and women, LTT aims to re-shape the narrative by calling attention to the brilliance of educators, creating excitement and joy around their ideas, and re-imagining schools in ways that center equity, anti-racism, and inclusion, and increase teacher retention in the process.
What is Listen to Teachers doing?
Listen to Teachers launched in Fall 2025 with its first cohort of educators.
Each cohort of participants is trained to use Photovoice methodology, a research approach designed to center the perspectives of people who have been marginalized.
LTT educators learn to take unidentifiable photographs and compose anonymized vignettes to document their experiences.
They then share these materials with one another, analyzing them to imagine together what needs to be done to reshape our schools, reclaim the profession, & truly realize educational justice.
Finally, LTT educators—anonymously and collectively—share their work with the public and policymakers in order to prompt change using several methods, including public and online photography exhibits and social media campaigns.
After completing their initial Photovoice year, each LTT cohort member can choose to stay active in the project and provide service or leadership in ways that match their skill set. For example, they can help teach our workshops, create social media campaigns, design exhibits, and more!
